Log 3: Due Dates

How is it only my third day working? The Agrify exhibit was due today, so Graeme, Preston, and Dad came in at 3:30 – that’s 3:30AM. (After much deliberation, I opted to stick with my regular 7:00AM start time). Shortly after I got to work, I met one of the Featherlite dealers coordinating the Agrify order: John, from Boston.

When John arrived at the office, it just so happened that I was the first person he stumbled upon. Evidently having no idea who I was, he started talking to me as though I knew anything about the exhibit, sharing his thoughts on it, as well as asking me a few questions about it. I looked around discreetly for Graeme or Preston - really anyone - but I was the only person around. So, it was just me and John. At one point he asked if I could put him to work somewhere. “Um… that’s a little above my pay grade,” I told him. He laughed.

I continued the day by stretching fabric images onto 20+ ft frames for the Agrify display, and vacuuming the display floor. Then I labeled some pieces of the display set up, ran to the hardware store, and spray painted some parts. When lunch rolled around, the customers came to see the finished exhibit, and Featherlite bought everyone pizza for lunch in the conference room. So there I was, in a room of 20 or so middle aged men, chatting away, eating, and honestly having a pretty good time. There was an air of contentment and accomplishment in the room. The guys talked about the early days of the company — when they regularly worked around the clock, drove across the country at a moment's notice to deliver orders, and overall seemed to take part in a lot of shenanigans. I remember thinking: now that’s life experience. I ended the day by sweeping the saw room floor, and got a flat tire on my way home.

Highlight: Today I was issued an official card with my name on it to clock in and out of work. Love it.
